Alexandra McMillan, MD Neurology in Neptune, NJ

Alexandra McMillan, M.D., is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurologist with specialty training in neuromuscular medicine — the branch of neurology that focuses on conditions affecting the muscles, nerves, and the connections between them. She is a part of the Hackensack Meridian Neuroscience Institute and sees patients in the Neptune and Red Bank locations.

Dr. McMillan cares for adults living with disorders such as myasthenia gravis, inflammatory muscle diseases (myositis), muscular dystrophies, and peripheral nerve conditions, and she is trained in the diagnostic testing used to evaluate these problems, including electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies.

Dr. McMillan completed her neuromuscular medicine fellowship at Yale New Haven Health in New Haven, Connecticut. She completed her residency in neurology at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York. There, she was selected as Chief Resident and served as the residency program's Didactics Liaison, while completing her internal medicine internship at the same institution. She earned her medical degree magna cum laude from St. George's University and holds a master's degree in anatomy from Tulane University and a bachelor's degree in Integrated Engineering, Arts and Sciences from Lehigh University.

Teaching is a central part of Dr. McMillan's work. She lectures residents, medical students, and physician assistant students on neuroanatomy, neuromuscular disease, and clinical case reasoning, and she has led neuropathology conferences and journal clubs on topics including myositis and muscular dystrophy. Dr. McMillan has presented her clinical research nationally at the annual meetings and coauthored several posters & abstracts. 

Dr. McMillan is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and the New York State Neurological Society.
