Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What is a vascular surgeon?

A vascular surgeon is a specialist who diagnoses and treats diseases of the vascular system—the arteries and veins that carry blood throughout your body.

2. What is the difference between open and endovascular surgery?

Open surgery involves making an incision to directly access and repair the affected blood vessel. Endovascular surgery is a minimally invasive approach where we use catheters and wires, guided by imaging, to perform repairs from inside the vessel.

3. What is an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA)?

An AAA is a bulge or swelling in the aorta, the main blood vessel that runs from the heart down through the chest and abdomen. If an aneurysm grows too large, it can be at risk of rupturing, which is a life-threatening emergency. We can repair aneurysms to prevent rupture, often using minimally invasive endovascular stent grafts.
