Avik Mukherjee, DPM

Avik Mukherjee, DPM, is double board certified from the ABPM and ACPM, ABFFAS foot and rearfoot/ankle board qualified, and fellowship trained. As a highly trained foot and ankle surgeon, he specializes specifically in trauma and complex reconstructive surgery. He also provides comprehensive care of the forefoot, midfoot, and ankle for patients of all ages.

Dr. Mukherjee’s approach to patient care is founded on respect, empathy, and genuine kindness. His practice philosophy is centered on active listening and taking the time to fully understand each patient's unique concerns. He prioritizes conservative treatment plans, utilizing a range of non-operative options including anti-inflammatory medications, therapeutic injections, physical therapy, and custom bracing. Surgery is considered only when necessary, at which point patients can be confident in his highly specialized training and experience.

Dr. Mukherjee completed his undergraduate degree in Microbiology from the University of Oklahoma with honors. He then earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine. He completed a surgical residency at Weiss Memorial Hospital before pursuing an advanced fellowship in Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery with Summit Health.

Outside of work, Dr. Mukherjee enjoys spending time with his family, staying active with sports, traveling, and trying new foods.

Therapeutic injections are a category of treatments that deliver anti-inflammatory medicine directly to the source of pain and swelling. It is a crucial step in order for some patients to be able to engage effectively in physical therapy.

The treatment begins with a conservative plan which may include physician therapy to medications or orthotics. Should surgery become necessary, it is followed by a structured recovery journey—progressing from initial healing and physical therapy to strengthening—all designed to safely return the patient to their personal goals and activities.
