Avik Sarkar, M.D., is a board certified, fellowship trained advanced gastroenterologist who has recently joined Hackensack Meridian Medical Group in HOPE Tower. Dr. Sarkar utilizes the latest technology and treatment options to perform both complex and minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), and endoscopic treatment of obesity, endohepatology amongst several others. He is particularly interested in endoscopic management of obesity, endohepatology, and complex endoscopic cases.

Prior to joining HMH, Dr. Sarkar served as the Assistant Professor of Medicine and the Director of Bariatric Endoscopy at Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Sarkar has been an invited speaker and moderator at many Gastrointestinal and Endoscopy related conferences both nationally and internationally. Dr. Sarkar is also a distinguished academic as he has been published in over 70 books, articles, and abstracts ranging the gamut of topics related to GI. He is an active member of the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (NYSGE), Association for Bariatric Endoscopy (ABE), American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), and the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG).
