Dr. Bindu Balani is a highly experienced, board-certified Infectious Disease specialist with a distinguished career in both clinical practice and academic medicine. She is a key member of the infectious disease team at Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, NJ, where she serves as an Infectious Disease Consultant with the Center for Infectious Diseases Faculty Practice.


Dr. Balani is a subject matter expert in a wide range of infectious diseases, including viral hepatitis, HIV, COVID-19, and complex infections related to cardiac, orthopedic, and renal transplant procedures. Her goal-oriented approach focuses on minimizing surgical and site infections through data-driven analysis and proven prevention techniques.


After earning her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree in India, Dr. Balani completed her Internal Medicine residency at Muhlenberg Regional Center. She then pursued a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, completing her training in 2000. She is certified from the American Board of Infectious Diseases.


In addition to her clinical roles, Dr. Balani is deeply committed to education and research. She serves as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, where she mentors students, contributes to curriculum development, and helps lead clinical trials. She previously served as the Medical Director of the Hepatitis Treatment Center at Hackensack University Medical Center for over 15 years. Dr. Balani has authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals on topics such as COVID-19, hepatitis, and other infectious diseases.


Dr. Balani is an active member of the Infectious Disease Society of America. Her extensive experience and collaborative approach make her a leader in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases.
