Gian Dev Pal, MD

Gian Pal, M.D., M.S., is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurologist who specializes in movement disorders. He is chief of Neurology and director of the Movement Disorders Program at Hackensack Meridian Neuroscience Institute at JFK University Medical Center.
Dr. Pal’s focus is treating patients with Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and other movement disorders including: tremor, Huntington’s disease, Tourette Syndrome, dystonia, myoclonus, ataxia and restless leg syndrome. He is an expert in evaluating and selecting patients who are eligible for deep brain stimulation (neuromodulation), MRI guided focused ultrasound, and non-neurosurgical therapies. He uses a holistic approach in treating his patients, incorporating dietary, exercise, and lifestyle strategies to optimize brain health.
He received his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ. He completed his residency in Neurology at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and completed a fellowship in Movement Disorders from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. He also completed a Master’s degree in Clinical Research from Rush University Graduate College.
Dr. Pal's research interests include deep brain stimulation, Parkinson's disease genetics, and studying the role of the gut microbiome in Parkinson's disease. He has served as principal investigator for multicenter studies funded by the Michael J. Fox Foundation, the Parkinson’s Foundation, and the Parkinson Study Group. He also conducted investigator-initiated research regarding GBA gene mutations in Parkinson disease. He has received multiple philanthropic awards and several grants from the National Institute of Health. He has over 50 research publications along with multiple abstracts, and book chapters covering various movement disorder conditions.
A frequent speaker and avid interprofessional educator, Dr. Pal has presented and lectured on various subjects across the country and world, including at the International Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Society Congress, American Academy of Neurology conference, and programs for the Parkinson’s Foundation. He is also an active member of the Parkinson’s Study Group, American Academy of Neurology, and Movement Disorder Society.
