Haroon M Shahid, MD

Haroon Shahid, M.D., is a board certified, fellowship-trained advanced gastroenterologist who has recently joined Hackensack Meridian Medical Group in HOPE Tower. Dr. Shahid remains on the front line of cutting edge advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal conditions. He combines his years of experience and expertise with the latest research and technologies to achieve the best possible outcome for his patients. He specializes in complex endoscopic procedures including ERCP, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), enteral stenting, radiofrequency ablation and cryotherapy for treatment of Barrett's esophagus, endoscopic mucosal resection for complex colon polyps, and endosuturing. He has a particular interest in therapeutic EUS and management of severe pancreatitis and pancreatic fluid collections.

Prior to joining HMH, Dr. Shahid served as Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He was the Director of Endoscopic Ultrasound and held many other leadership roles. He implemented and led the Gastroenterology Morbidity and Mortality conferences at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and served on the Process Improvement Committee for the Internal Medicine Department. Dr. Shahid is also a distinguished academic as he has authored and presented on numerous topics related to advanced endoscopy. He has been involved in over 100 publications, abstracts, presentations and posters. He is an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Gastroenterological Association, and the New York Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
