Jeontaik J Kwon, MD

Dr. Jeontaik John Kwon is a board-certified vascular surgeon and the Chief of Vascular Surgery at Riverview Medical Center. He has been repeatedly recognized for his expertise, earning the distinction of a Castle Connolly Top Doc and being named a Top Doc in Vascular Surgery by Hudson Valley Magazine. 

Dr. Kwon specializes in both traditional open surgery and advanced minimally invasive endovascular procedures. A dedicated leader in his field, Dr. Kwon has developed and launched successful programs for both TCAR (TransCarotid Artery Revascularization) and Limb Preservation. He currently performs this advanced procedure at Riverview Medical Center to safely treat carotid artery disease.

His clinical expertise includes the treatment of carotid artery disease, aortic aneurysms, peripheral artery disease (PAD), venous disease, as well as creating and managing dialysis access. Also, he is involved in wound care treatment related to vascular disease by providing innovative wound care techniques. 

Dr. Kwon completed his undergraduate degree from University of Pennsylvania and received his medical degree from Albany Medical College in New York. He completed his general surgery residency at Abington Memorial Hospital/Thomas Jefferson University, where he served as Chief Resident, and his advanced fellowship in Vascular Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. 

In addition to his medical and surgical training, Dr. Kwon holds an MBA from the University of Massachusetts Isenberg School of Management, bringing a unique perspective on leadership and healthcare innovation to his practice.

1. What is a vascular surgeon?

PAD is poor circulation in the legs caused by blocked arteries. If it's severe, it can cause pain, wounds that won't heal, and can even lead to amputation. Limb preservation means we use advanced procedures to open up the blocked arteries to restore blood flow to your legs to prevent limb loss.

An AAA is a dangerous bulge in the main artery in your belly. If it gets too big, it can burst. We can fix it before that happens, often with a minimally invasive procedure where we place a new lining inside the artery through small openings in your groin.
