Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What is a vascular surgeon?
A vascular surgeon is a doctor who specializes in fixing problems with your blood vessels, which are the arteries and veins that carry blood. We treat things like blockages, bulges in arteries (aneurysms), and varicose veins.
2. What is Carotid Artery Disease and what is TCAR?
This is when the main arteries in your neck get narrow, which can lead to a stroke. TransCarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR) is a modern, safe procedure to fix the narrowing of carotid vessels. We place a small tube (a stent) to open the artery, while temporarily reversing blood flow to protect your brain from any loose plaque.
3. What is Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) and why is "limb preservation" important?
PAD is poor circulation in the legs caused by blocked arteries. If it's severe, it can cause pain, wounds that won't heal, and can even lead to amputation. Limb preservation means we use advanced procedures to open up the blocked arteries to restore blood flow to your legs to prevent limb loss.
4. What is an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) and how is it repaired?
An AAA is a dangerous bulge in the main artery in your belly. If it gets too big, it can burst. We can fix it before that happens, often with a minimally invasive procedure where we place a new lining inside the artery through small openings in your groin.
5. How can I schedule an appointment with Dr. Kwon?
You can schedule an appointment by calling his office in Shrewsbury.
