Frequently Asked Questions
What is a pediatric hospitalist?
As a pediatric hospitalist, I am a pediatrician who specializes exclusively in caring for children who are in the hospital. My role is to manage your child's medical care from admission to discharge, coordinating with other specialists to provide comprehensive treatment. I am focused on your child's needs while they are here, ensuring they receive the best possible care.
How will you work with my child's regular pediatrician?
I partner closely with your child's primary pediatrician to ensure continuity of care. We will communicate when your child is admitted and provide them with regular updates, especially if there are significant changes. Upon discharge, I will send a detailed summary of the hospital stay to ensure a smooth transition back to their ongoing care.
How often will you see my child during their hospital stay?
I will personally see your child at least once a day to assess their condition and update you on the care plan. As the physician leading your child's care team in the hospital, I or one of my hospitalist colleagues are available 24 hours a day to respond to any urgent needs. Please always feel free to ask your child's nurse to contact me with any questions.
What is my role as a parent while my child is in the hospital?
You are the most important member of your child's care team, as you know your child best. I encourage you to ask questions, share your insights, and participate in all decisions regarding their treatment. Your presence and partnership are vital to your child's healing process.
