Matthew T Scharf, MD

Matthew Scharf, M.D., Ph.D., is board certified in Neurology and Sleep Medicine. As Director of Sleep Medicine for Hackensack Meridian Health’s southern region, Dr. Scharf treats an array of sleep disorders and is an expert in at-home and in-lab sleep studies, including polysomnograms, PAP titration studies, and multiple sleep latency tests. He sees patients in-person as well as via telehealth. 

Realizing the profound impact that sleep has on nearly every aspect of a person’s health, Dr. Scharf has dedicated his career to helping patients reclaim the sleep they need to function at their best. He takes the time to listen to his patients, understanding their concerns and experiences to create a personalized treatment plan.

Dr. Scharf is a firm believer that improving sleep is not just about treating a condition, rather it is about restoring quality of life. An avid runner and hiker himself, he encourages his patients to incorporate some level of exercise into their daily routines for optimal sleep health.

He is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. He is dedicated to continuous learning and staying up to date on the newest technologies and treatments in the field. He has also published dozens of peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and reviews and presented at a variety of conferences.
