Maureen Sessa, Psy.D., is a fellowship-trained health psychologist with expertise in helping individuals adjust to various medical conditions, including multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, stroke, epilepsy, chronic pain, functional neurological disorder, and cancer. She provides individual and group-based psychotherapy, emphasizing patient autonomy and expression while working with thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to promote behavioral change and improve quality of life overall.

Dr. Sessa practices predominantly from an acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) perspective, but frequently incorporates other evidenced-based approaches into her practice, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), CBT for insomnia, motivational interviewing (MI), meaning-centered psychotherapy (MCP), and dignity therapy. These modalities are utilized to address patients’ experience with stress, mood, anxiety, chronic pain, sleep difficulties, and overall adjustment-related concerns regarding their medical diagnoses.

Dr. Sessa has presented at several conferences, such as the Eastern Psychological Association (EPA) and the Association for Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies (ABCT) annual conventions, as well as the International Psycho-Oncology Society (IPOS) global conference. She has also co-led professional presentations related to psychotherapy in healthcare at both the Pennsylvania Counseling Association (PCA) and the Association for Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies (ABCT) annual conventions. She is an active member of the APA (Division 38: Health Psychology) and the Association for Contextual Behavioral Sciences (ACBS).

Philosophy of Care

Dr. Sessa’s approach to psychotherapy emphasizes collaboration, patient empowerment, and self-compassion.
