Mohammed Shan Uddin, MD

Mohammed S. Uddin, M.D. is a board-eligible, fellowship-trained neurologist with a specialization in neuro-ophthalmology. He is also an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine.
Providing ongoing and diagnostic care for patients, Dr. Uddin specializes in vision disorders including optic neuritis, ischemic optic neuropathy, hereditary optic nerve disorders, eye movement disorders, double vision, and thyroid eye disease. He also treats vision abnormalities related to stroke, brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, intracranial hypertension and other neurological conditions. He uses up-to-date neuro-ophthalmological equipment.
Dr. Uddin also treats many general neurological conditions including, but not limited to, headaches and migraines, neck pain, back pain, neuropathy, dementia, carpal tunnel, essential tremor, Parkinson’s disease, and seizures.
Prior to his medical training, Dr. Uddin received a bachelor of science degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida where he was inducted into the Biomedical Engineering Honor Society. He earned his medical degree from Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and then completed a Transitional Year Residency at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in Miami, Florida. He completed his Neurology Residency at Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah, Florida, where he was appointed Chief Resident, Peer Selected Resident, and served on multiple hospital committees. Dr. Uddin completed his Neuro-Ophthalmology Fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, New York and during this time also served on faculty as Instructor in Ophthalmology.
His experience includes numerous research projects, publications, and presentations. He has over three years of experience as a research assistant at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami where he was awarded the Fight for Sight fellowship. During this time he investigated the development of retinal ganglion cells and a method to bioengineer the retinal ganglion cell layer. He also has done research focusing on topics such as traumatic brain injury, vascular neurology, optic neuropathy, and the neurological manifestations of COVID-19. His scholarly work has been published in journals such as Neurology, Annals of Neurology, Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology, and International Journal of Stroke. He has presented at local, national, and international conferences including the American Academy of Neurology Conference, American Neurological Association Conference, and World Congress of Neurology. He has also done several grand rounds presentations at Weill Cornell Medical College.
Dr. Uddin is a member of several professional associations, including the American Academy of Neurology and the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society.
