Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What is a Urologic Oncologist?
A urologic oncologist is a cancer surgeon who specializes in the urinary system. This includes surgery for cancers of the prostate, kidney, bladder, and testicles.

2. What are the benefits of robotic surgery for urologic cancer?
Robotic surgery is a minimally invasive way to perform complex cancer operations. It uses tiny cuts instead of a large one, which lets me see better and be more precise. For patients, this usually means less pain, a shorter hospital stay, and a much faster recovery.

3. I have prostate cancer. Does that always mean surgery?
Not always. For slow-growing or low-risk prostate cancers, we might just watch it closely with a program called "active surveillance." We will discuss all options to find the best path for you.

4. What is bladder-sparing treatment?
For some types of bladder cancer, this is a way to treat the cancer without having to remove the entire bladder. It uses a combination of treatments to kill the cancer cells while allowing you to keep your bladder.

5. How can I schedule an appointment with Dr. Yerram?
You can schedule an appointment with Dr. Yerram in Hackensack or North Bergen.

I transperineal prostate biohad mypsy performed by Dr. K Yerram at HMH after an elevated PSA result. My confidence to have this procedure knowing Dr. Yerram has an exceptional record in the prostate surgery, directed me to consult his expertise. His explanation with me on the procedure was very simple done without any pain and home after 2 hours. The recovery was only 3 days with blood in the urine. After a week it's back to normal. I then had a follow up with Dr. Yerram and explained his recommendation based on the result of the decipher genomic test. Thanks God I was not recommended for further procedure as the cancer is very low risk. A monitoring is considered.
