Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What is a thoracic surgeon?
A thoracic surgeon is a doctor who specializes in surgery of the chest. This mainly includes the lungs, esophagus (the tube you swallow with), and chest wall.
2. What is minimally invasive thoracic surgery?
Instead of one large incision, we use a few small "keyhole" cuts and a tiny camera to perform the surgery. This is often called VATS or robotic surgery. It means less pain, smaller scars, and a much faster recovery for you.
3. What are the most common conditions you treat?
I treat a wide range of conditions in the chest. The most common are lung cancer and esophageal cancer. I also treat benign (non-cancerous) lung diseases and problems with the chest wall.
4. What is recovery like after minimally invasive lung surgery?
Recovery is much faster than with traditional open surgery. Most patients have less pain, spend less time in the hospital, and can get back to their normal daily activities sooner.
5. How can I schedule an appointment with Dr. Hanhan?
