Philosophy of Care

As Chief of the Center for Sexual Health & Fertility, I am in the unique position of being able to have long-term relationship with both my patients and their partners. It is one of the most rewarding aspects of my practice. With successful diagnosis and treatment, I can help couples to achieve intimacy, improve their relationship and even start a family.

Often, the hardest part for men struggling with reproductive or sexual problems is to walk through the door, sit down and start a conversation with me to discuss these sensitive issues.  That is why, with every encounter, I strive to create a compassionate and caring environment that allows that conversation to take place. My goal is to develop a treatment plan that is tailored for each individual patient’s goals and lifestyle.  Sometimes, this plan could be as simple as adjusting medications while other times, it may require performing complex microsurgery.

As Associate Professor and Vice Chair of Urology at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, my role as a clinician is only one part of what I do. In order to improve patient outcomes, I believe clinical research is integral to advancing our collective medical knowledge. I have presented my research at national and international meetings on men’s health issues such as BPH, hypogonadism, erectile dysfunction and male infertility. Currently, I collaborate with physicians at other institutions around the world to create a database that will help us to improve our patient care for infertile men.

I am proud to be part of the urology team at Hackensack University Medical Center where we are committed to academic excellence and are dedicated to constantly improving patient care using the latest, state-of-the-art techniques.

Every thing worked out very well.
My experience with Dr. David Shin was very positive, very comprehensible, very understandable, and very appreciated. Thank you.
The RN that removed my catheter was very compassionate and professional. I felt very comfortable with her, forgot her name but I remember her saying she's been with Humc for over 39 years. Outstanding Nurse ??
