Diviya Kaul, MD

Diviya Kaul, M.D., is a board-certified, fellowship trained neurologist focused in movement disorders. As Medical Director of the Movement Disorders program at Hackensack Meridian Neuroscience Institute at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Dr. Kaul diagnoses and manages a wide range of conditions including Parkinson's Disease, Essential Tremor, Atypical Parkinsonian Syndromes, Dystonia, Huntington's Disease, and Ataxia.
As part of her medical practice, she evaluates patients for Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and provides post-operative programming and management for both adult and pediatric patients. She also assesses eligibility for high intensity focused ultrasound procedure for the treatment of essential tremor or Parkinson’s dominant tremor. She is an expert at administering therapeutic neurotoxin (Botox) injections, often using EMG guidance for precision, to treat conditions like dystonia.
In addition to her commitment to medicine, Dr. Kaul is passionate about the therapeutic power of exercise. With a lifelong background in dance, she completed specialized training with the Mark Morris Dance Group's "Dance for PD®" program. During her residency, she designed and launched a "Dancing with Parkinson's" class for the community, a program that continues to thrive today. She has brought this same initiative to the Bay Area at Kaiser Permanente, where she led a weekly class for patients. Dr. Kaul values the physician-patient relationship and is committed to providing compassionate and comprehensive medical care.
Dr. Kaul's medical training includes an Internal Medicine Internship at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, followed by a Neurology Residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. During her residency, she developed a passion for working with patients with movement disorders, which led her to pursue a specialized Movement Disorders Fellowship at the prestigious Stanford Movement Disorders Center.
She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Neurology, Movement Disorders Society and the Mark Morris Dance Group—Dance for PD®. She is a frequent invited speaker and presenter, specifically:
- American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Annual Meeting: Presented and demonstrated "Dancing with Parkinson's" at the Brain Health Fair and Live Well sessions four years in a row.
- Parkinson’s Foundation: Presented at the “Mind, Mood and Motion-Bay Area” event in Lafayette, CA.
- PD ACTIVE: Presented on "Medications in Parkinson’s Disease".
- The Parkinson Association of Northern California: Led a virtual dance class.
Philosophy of Care
Dr. Kaul's philosophy of care is centered on a partnership with her patients and their families. She believes in treating the whole person, not just the condition. This means combining the most advanced, evidence-based neurological treatments—from medication management to Deep Brain Stimulation—with a dedicated focus on quality of life. She is a strong advocate for the power of lifestyle and exercise, particularly dance, in managing movement disorders. Her goal is for every patient to feel heard, respected, and empowered, and to receive comprehensive care that honors their individual needs and dignity.
