Khaled Abu-Ihweij, M.D. is a highly accomplished, board-certified, and fellowship-trained physician specializing in Sleep Medicine, Pulmonology, and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Abu-Ihweij is passionate about caring for patients with a wide range of sleep and sleep-related conditions. His vast expertise in sleep medicine allows him to diagnose and treat disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea, narcolepsy, obesity hypoventilation syndrome, and restless leg syndrome. He is dedicated to providing treatments that can ultimately change a patient’s quality of life and reduce the risk of associated comorbidities.
A special interest of Dr. Abu-Ihweij is the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea through hypoglossal nerve stimulation with. He has experience with both the Inspire and Genio hypoglossal nerve stimulators. This innovative therapy offers an alternative for patients who have not found success with CPAP machines. The system works by delivering mild stimulation to the hypoglossal nerve, which controls the tongue's movement, keeping the airway open during sleep.
In addition to his focus on sleep medicine, Dr. Abu-Ihweij has extensive experience in pulmonary procedures, including robotic endobronchial navigation, EBUS, and fiducial placement. He is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and American College of Chest Physicians.
