Dr. Gizzi is board-certified in neurology and vascular neurology, and specializes in stroke neurology and neuro-ophthalmology. Dr. Gizzi is Vice Chair of Neurology and Director of the Division of Cerebrovascular Diseases at Hackensack University Medical Center, as well as professor of Neurology at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine.


His clinical interests include treating stroke and neurological causes of vision loss, and he offers specialized procedures including automated perimetry and optical coherence tomography (OCT). Dr. Gizzi has participated in groundbreaking clinical trials and has received research funding from the National Institutes of Health, NASA, and other public and private sources. He has contributed numerous publications to medical literature, including book chapters, peer-reviewed papers, and abstracts.


Dr. Gizzi earned his medical degree from the University of Miami. He completed his neurology residency, followed by a neuro-ophthalmology fellowship, at Mount Sinai Hospital. He also earned his Master's in Experimental Psychology and Doctorate in Visual Neurophysiology from New York University, and his MBA in Healthcare from George Washington University.


He works closely with the American Heart Association on the organization of stroke systems of care. His efforts on behalf of people with stroke were recognized with the Physician of the Year Award from the American Heart Association and the Community Conscience Award from the NorthEast Cerebrovascular Consortium. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Heart Association, and the North American Ophthalmology Society.

Philosophy of Care

Dr. Gizzi takes a comprehensive approach to patient care, with a focus on understanding risk factors and developing an evidence-based treatment plan that addresses each patient’s physical and emotional needs. He counsels his patients on managing risk factors, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes to reduce the risk of stroke and disability.
