Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What is a thoracic surgeon?
A thoracic surgeon is a specialist who operates on organs inside the chest, primarily focusing on the lungs, esophagus, chest wall, and diaphragm.

2. What is robotic thoracic surgery and what are its benefits?
Robotic surgery is a form of minimally invasive surgery that makes very small incisions. This technology provides enhanced 3D vision allowing for complex procedures to be performed with greater accuracy. The benefits often include less pain, a shorter hospital stay, minimal scarring, and a faster return to normal activities.

3. What types of cancer do you treat?
I specialize in the surgical treatment of cancers within the chest. The most common conditions I treat are lung cancer and esophageal cancer. I also perform surgery for cancers of the chest wall, pleura (the lining of the lung), and mediastinum (the area between the lungs).

4. What is a segmentectomy?
A segmentectomy is an advanced, lung-sparing surgical technique where we remove only the tumor and a small area around it, instead of taking out a whole section of the lung. This helps save your healthy lung tissue and makes recovery and future breathing easier.

5. How can I schedule an appointment with Dr.NeMoyer?
