Ryan M. Coyle, MD

Ryan Coyle, M.D., FAAOS, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty fellowship training in hand surgery. He provides expert care for patients of all ages suffering from conditions affecting the hand, wrist, and forearm. His practice is built on a foundation of listening, education, and shared decision-making to help patients regain function and return to the activities that matter most.
Dr. Coyle’s academic and medical training is exceptional. He graduated from Princeton University and earned his medical degree from Columbia University. He then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Lenox Hill Hospital, followed by a specialized fellowship in hand surgery at New York University (NYU).
Dr. Coyle’s philosophy begins with understanding each patient's personal goals, whether that means returning to work, sports, or everyday life. He believes successful treatment begins with listening carefully, educating patients about their options, and developing a treatment plan tailored to their goals. Whether treatment involves therapy, minimally invasive procedures, or surgery, he is committed to delivering evidence-based care with a focus on achieving the best possible outcome.
His interest in medicine was first sparked by his experience as a football player, where he gained a firsthand appreciation for the discipline and teamwork required to overcome injury. This inspired his passion for helping others regain their confidence and abilities. In recognition of his expertise, Dr. Coyle was named a 2024 NJ Monthly Top Doc for orthopedic surgery.

FAQ:
“Will I need surgery?”
Dr. Coyle's goal is always to recommend the least invasive treatment that will achieve your goals, as not every hand condition requires surgery. He often finds that conditions improve with non-operative options like therapy, splinting, or injections. Dr. Coyle only recommends surgery when he believes it offers the best opportunity to improve your pain, function, or long-term outcome.
“How long will recovery take?”
Recovery depends on the condition being treated and whether treatment is surgical or nonsurgical. Dr. Coyle helps you understand not only when symptoms may improve, but also when you can expect to return to work, sports, hobbies, and daily activities. Setting realistic expectations and creating a clear recovery plan are important parts of achieving a successful outcome.
“Will I regain full function of my hand?”
While every patient is different, Dr. Coyle's goal is always to maximize function and help you return to the activities that matter most. He discusses expected outcomes early and develops a treatment plan based on your individual goals and lifestyle. For Dr. Coyle, success is ultimately measured by helping you use their hand comfortably and confidently in everyday life.
