Shahid Rahim Aziz, DMD

Shahid R. Aziz, DMD, M.D is the Division Director of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center and Professor of Otolaryngology, Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine.  Since 2002 he practices full scope oral and maxillofacial surgery. Dr. Aziz’s clinical areas of expertise include facial trauma and reconstruction as well as orthognathic surgery - he is considered to be one of the busiest and premiere orthognathic surgeons in the nation. Dr Aziz recently completed his 2500th orthognathic surgery - a milestone that less than 10 surgeons in the US have attained. 

Dr Aziz is a New Jersey native. He attended the Lawrenceville School, is a graduate of Rutgers University, received his dental degree from Harvard University and medical degree from Columbia University. Dr Aziz completed his surgical training at Columbia University/ New York Presbyterian Medical Center. 

Dr. Aziz is past President of the New Jersey Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and Chairman of the Section of Dentistry and Oral Health of the New York Academy of Medicine. He is also the co-founder and President of the NJ based non-profit Smile Bangladesh which provides free surgery to children and adults with cleft lip and palate deformities in Bangladesh. Since starting Smile Bangladesh more than 20 years ago, Dr. Aziz has led a small team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses on 32 surgical missions and has treated more than 2000 patients. Dr Aziz is the 2017 recipient of AAOMS Humanitarian Award for his charitable work in Bangladesh and in global surgery. He has also authored or co-authored over 50 peer reviewed journal articles and 25 book chapters. Dr Aziz has also written a text on the history of American Oral and MAxillofacial Surgery. He is also only one of 10 American trained maxillofacial surgeons to be awarded a Fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
