Dr. Matthew Hanson, M.D.., is a board-certified Otolaryngologist with subspecialty certification in Neurotology. Since 2005, he has served as an Assistant Professor and the Director of Otology/Neurotology for the Department of Otolaryngology at SUNY Downstate School of Medicine. Most recently, he held the positions of attending Surgeon and Director of Service for Otolaryngology at Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Hanson is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and earned his subspecialty certification in Neurotology, underscoring his commitment to excellence in his specialized field. 


For 30 years, Dr. Hanson has had the privilege of focusing exclusively on his work as an ear surgeon.  A cornerstone of his practice is building strong relationships with his patients and ensuring he is accessible to them and their referring providers. Prior to his current appointments, Dr. Hanson was an Assistant Professor and Director of Otology at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. His career also includes extensive experience in private practice, specializing in Otology/Neurotology. During that time, he also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. His clinical excellence is consistently recognized by his peers, earning him a "Top Doctor" designation from Castle Connolly (2015-2024) and New York Magazine (2016-2024). Dr. Hanson is a Fellow of the American Neurotology Society, the North American Skull Base Society, the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, and numerous other national and regional societies.
