Palak Shashikant Patel, MD

Palak S. Patel, M.D., is a board-certified neurologist and psychiatrist at JFK University Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey. Dr. Patel's cross functional training allows him to provide innovative treatments at the intersection of neurology and psychiatry. He offers expert treatment for drug refractory epilepsy and autoimmune epilepsy, along with seizures and other neuropsychiatric disorders. With a team of world-class neurosurgeons at the Hackensack Meridian Neuroscience Institute at JFK University Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey, Dr. Patel collaborates on the surgical treatment of epilepsy for his patients.

Dr. Patel attended C.U.Shah Medical College, Saurashtra University in India before coming to the United States for his residency in psychiatry and neurology at the New York University School of Medicine. During his residency Dr. Patel was recognized for his research and innovation in the field of neurology, earning the Excellence in Research Award from his program. Following his residency, Dr. Patel completed a fellowship in epilepsy at the University of Michigan Health System.

Actively working to expand his field, Dr. Patel is a member of multiple professional organizations including the American Academy of Neurology, American Neuropsychiatric Association, American Psychiatric Association, Functional Neurological Disorder Society. He has already been recognized by his peers as an innovator, earning the Young Investigator Award from the American Neuropsychiatric Association and Pipeline Conference Travel Award from the Epilepsy Foundation. Dr. Patel's research and clinical interests focus on the interplay of the brain and mind in human behavior and health.
